Is Self-Book Publishing the Better Path Today?

Lately I’ve been wondering whether self book publishing​ is becoming the smarter choice for new authors. Traditional publishing feels slow and selective, but self-publishing offers more freedom yet also more responsibility. How do writers decide if they’re ready to handle editing, formatting, marketing, and distribution on their own? And does choosing this path actually improve creative control, or just add more pressure? I’m curious how others weigh the pros and cons.
